Treatment of herpes zoster (shingles) in adult patients who commence therapy within 72 hours of the onset of rash; treatment of ophthalmic zoster; treatment of clinical episodes of genital herpes simplex infections; prevention of recurrent genital herpes; reduction of transmission of genital herpes in patients suffering from recurrent genital herpes. In addition to therapy with Valnir, it is recommended that patients use safer sex practice; prophylaxis of cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection and disease following solid organ transplantation in patients at risk of CMV disease.

Management of anxiety disorders or for the short-term relief of the symptoms of anxiety. Anxiety or tension associated with the stress of everyday life usually does not require treatment with an anxiolytic. In acute alcohol withdrawal, diazepam may be useful in the symptomatic relief of acute agitation, tremor, impending or acute delirium tremens and hallucinosis. Diazepam is a useful adjunct for the relief of reflex muscle spasm due to local trauma (injury, inflammation) to muscles, bones and joints. It can also be used to combat spasticity due to upper motor neuron lesions such as cerebral palsy and paraplegia, as well as in athetosis and stiff-man syndrome.

Epilepsy. Primary generalised epilepsy (petit mal absences, various forms of myoclonic epilepsy and tonic-clonic grand mal seizures). Partial (focal) epilepsy either alone or as adjuvant therapy. Mania. For the treatment of mania where other therapy has proved inadequate or is inappropriate.

Vancocin capsules may be administered orally for the treatment of staphylococcal enterocolitis and antibiotic-associated pseudomembranous colitis produced by C. difficile. Parenteral administration of Vancocin is not effective for the above indications; therefore Vancocin must be given orally. Vancocin is not effective by the oral route for other types of infection.

Vancocin CP is indicated in potentially life-threatening infections which cannot be treated with another effective, less toxic antimicrobial drug, including the penicillins and cephalosporins. Vancocin CP is useful in therapy of severe staphylococcal (including methicillin- resistant staphylococcal) infections in patients who cannot receive or who failed to respond to the penicillins and cephalosporins or who have infections with staphylococci that are resistant to other antibiotics. Once sensitivity data are available, therapy should be adjusted accordingly. Vancocin CP is effective alone or in combination with an aminoglycoside for endocarditis caused by S. viridans or S. bovis. For endocarditis caused by enterococci (e.g. E. faecalis), Vancocin CP is effective only in combination with an aminoglycoside. Vancocin CP is effective for the treatment of diphtheroid endocarditis. Vancocin CP is used in combination with rifampin, an aminoglycoside, or both in early-onset prosthetic valve endocarditis caused by S. epidermidis or diphtheroids. The effectiveness of Vancocin CP has been documented in other infections due to staphylococci including osteomyelitis, pneumonia, septicaemia, and soft tissue infections. When staphylococcal infections are localised and purulent, antibiotics are used as adjuncts to appropriate surgical measures. Specimens for bacteriologic cultures should be obtained in order to isolate and identify causative organisms and to determine their susceptibilities to Vancocin CP. Vancocin CP should be administered orally for the treatment of Staphylococcal enterocolitis and antibiotic associated pseudomembranous colitis produced by C. difficile. Parenteral administration of Vancocin CP alone is inappropriate for this indication. Vancomycin is not effective by the oral route for other types of infections. For oral administration the parenteral formulation may be used. Some systemic absorption may occur following oral administration in patients with pseudomembranous colitis.

Skeletal muscle relaxant for use as an adjunct to general anaesthesia in adults and children for all surgical procedures. 

Vedilol is indicated for the treatment of hypertension. Data have not been provided to support the use of this drug in renovascular disease. Vedilol is indicated for the treatment of patients with symptomatic mild to severe (NYHA class II to IV) congestive heart failure (CHF) as an adjunct to conventional treatments (e.g. diuretics, digoxin, ACE inhibitors and Vasodilators).

VENOFER is indicated for the treatment of iron deficiency anaemia in patients undergoing chronic haemodialysis and who are receiving supplemental erythropoietin therapy. The diagnosis of iron deficiency must be based on appropriate laboratory tests (e.g. serum ferritin, serum iron, transferrin saturation and hypochromic red cells).

Management of essential hypertension and angina pectoris.

Cardiac arrythmias [sinus tachycardia, paroxysmal tachycardia, supraventricular extrasystoles, drug induced extrasystoles (digitalis), atrial flutter and fibrilation - to slow the ventricular rate].

Functional hyperadrenergic cardiac disturbances (hyperkinectic heart syndrome, neurocirculatory asthenia).
