MAREVAN is indicated for the prophylaxis and/or treatment of venous thrombosis and its extension and pulmonary embolism. MAREVAN is indicated for the prophylaxis andor treatment of the thromboembolic complications associated with atrial fibrillation. MAREVAN is not indicated in patients with lone atrial fibrillation who are less than 60 years of age with no risk factors (eg previous thromboembolism (TIA, ischaemic stroke), diabetes mellitus, hypertension) and an otherwise normal heart. MAREVAN is indicated for use as an adjunct in the treatment of coronary occlusion.

Palliative treatment of recurrent inoperable or metastatic carcinoma of the breast (see DOSAGE). It should not be used in lieu of currently accepted procedures such as surgery, radiation or chemotherapy.

Used to treat the symptoms of moderately severe to severe Alzheimer’s Disease (AD). AD can be described as a general decline in all areas of mental ability.

Treatment of acute inflammatory large bowel disease; Maintenance therapy of Crohn's colitis and ulcerative colitis in patients sensitive to sulfasalazine.

Treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults, particularly in overweight patients, when dietary management and exercise alone does not result in adequate glycaemic control. Metex XR may be used as monotherapy or in combination with other oral antidiabetic agents, or with insulin.

Reduces inflammation (pain, swelling, redness and heat) which is one of the body's reactions to injury and reduces the body's reaction to infection. It is used for the treatment of one or more of the following conditions: • skin diseases • allergic reactions • inflammation of the eyes • respiratory diseases and certain respiratory infections • diseases of the gut (gastrointestinal tract) • multiple sclerosis • rheumatic disorders • diseases of the blood • treatment of certain glandular conditions and tumours of the immune system.

Hypertension; angina pectoris; suspected or definite myocardial infarction; migraine prophylaxis.

Active Paget's disease

Hypercalcaemia.

Minocycline may be used for the treatment of infections caused by any of the following organisms provided that they have been shown by bacteriological testing to be susceptible to minocycline: Escherichia coli, Enterobacter aerogenes, Haemophilus influenzae, Klebsiella and Proteus. It may also be used in the treatment of infections due to Streptococcus pyogenes (group A ?- haemolytic) and Streptococcus faecalis but because a large proportion of these organisms is resistant to tetracyclines, minocycline should be used only if the organisms have been shown to be definitely sensitive. Tetracyclines, including minocycline, are not the drugs of choice in the treatment of staphylococcal infections. Minocycline may be considered for the treatment of such infections only if other suitable agents are not available and the organism has been shown to be sensitive to minocycline. Minocycline may be used in the treatment of tetracycline-resistant acne.
